A Track Record of Clinical and Operational Excellence

To founders Becki Fulcher and Jason Shaw, Child's Play Autism Centers reflects the perfect mix of clinical excellence and operational strength. Founded in 2014, Child's Play has become the region's leading behavioral and autism centers, delivering exceptional Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to local children with autism and related disorders, including those with high-magnitude and self-injurious aggression.

The founders stay actively engaged in daily oversight of their locations. They are accountable for ensuring every clinic provides consistent care and support to the many clients it serves. Driven by the organization's mission — "To embrace the life and potential of all individuals through competent and sincere supportive services" — Child's Play Autism Centers strives to help every individual live a full and happy life.

Child's Play also uses up-to-date systems and tools to keep its facilities safe, modern, and technologically advanced. Our spaces are purpose-built for children with autism across the full spectrum — from the so-called "problem child" to the high-functioning. Advanced technology, such as Chartlytics charting and telepresence from Double Robotics, helps provide the most current care for your child.

Our Mission

To embrace the life and potential of all individuals through competent and sincere supportive services. We are dedicated to ensuring that children at every level of the spectrum, however aggressive or disruptive, can receive care that meets their particular needs and are never excluded from the scope of care available to them.

Our Vision

Our vision is that every person has the opportunity to live a fulfilling and enriched life.

Therapist and Analyst Roles at Child's Play

The ABA field involves multiple levels of certification, education, and experience requirements:

Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA)

BCBAs have a Master's-level education in Applied Behavior Analysis, finish a supervised concentration with many hundreds of training hours, pass a certification exam, and keep up continuing education in ABA. Most insurance companies recognize a BCBA's credentials as medical professionals for network services and contract directly with providers at this level. At Child's Play, every client officially has an assigned BCBA leading their case, while our clinicians guide each child's protocols together. Each analyst specializes in distinct and overlapping areas of learning — some in early language acquisition, others in aggressive behaviors, and still others with experience in socially appropriate sexual behaviors in adolescents. Whatever your family's needs, Child's Play strives to have you covered, and as your needs change, we adapt too.

Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts (BCaBA)

BCaBAs must earn a Bachelor's Degree in an approved field, complete the required concentration hours and supervision in their program, pass a certification exam, and maintain continuing education in ABA. BCaBAs work under a BCBA's oversight and generally help support and increase the number of clients a BCBA can ethically oversee at any given time. It is not uncommon for BCaBAs to provide direct care in necessary cases, especially where aggressive or rapidly shifting problem behaviors are present.

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT)

The RBT level is a newer certification in our field, introduced in the late 2010s. RBT certification requires a high school education, though many autism centers also employ staff who are college graduates in non-ABA fields. RBTs may only work in the field under constant oversight and supervision by a BCBA. RBTs are trained by their BCBA, complete a certification credential, and must pass a certification examination. RBTs cannot operate with limited supervision or on their own. Looking ahead, many insurers will likely require all therapist-level positions to be RBT certified, and some already do; Child's Play works to stay ahead of that requirement through its ongoing certification and training program at the center-based level of care. Child's Play assigns dedicated trainers at each location whose sole purpose is to oversee ongoing staff strengthening of skill sets.

Success Stories

Hope — hope is the word that best sums up what Child's Play has given not just our son but our whole family. A year ago things felt pretty hopeless. It has been so uplifting to see the progress in his level of independence, self care, independent living skills, and emotional control. Making the decision to send him to Child's Play is one we will never regret. — Caregiver Review, Online

When looking for a school or center for a child with autism, resources are limited when a typical school environment is not functional for your child. We came upon Child's Play Autism Center and immediately fell in love with the one-on-one interaction for our daughter. Not only does she get one-on-one ABA therapy in her own private therapy room, she also has the opportunity to interact with other students. There are so many areas for her to play and learn — a music area, pretend play area, gross motor area, sensory area, kitchen area, and so much more. She gets the chance to go shopping at the grocery store to work on social behaviors as well as take trips to the mall, and she goes out to lunch to work on her social and public goals. All of the staff is amazing and in constant communication about how my daughter is doing. They are all so supportive! My daughter has excelled greatly since beginning at Child's Play Autism Center! I am so thankful they are here in Ft. Wayne! — Caregiver Review, Online
